Trying something completely new can take little ones out of their comfort zone, and that was definitely the case for our little guy at Rascal Rugby. He went along with his Dad, and we loved how welcoming the team were and how easily they let him join in at his own pace.

We went along to a Rascal Rugby trial day and it was such a fun introduction to rugby for our little one. The sessions are non contact and use age appropriate games and activities to help kids develop movement skills, coordination, teamwork and confidence while still keeping everything playful.

It happened to be raining when we arrived, but that didn’t stop the session. The team moved everything inside the rugby club, which meant the kids could still get involved despite the weather, so this is one where both the indoor and outdoor spaces are genuinely used.

Our little guy was definitely outside his comfort zone at first, but the team were really patient and welcoming. They gave him the space to watch, join in when he was ready and build his confidence as the session went on.

The program is split into Wombats for ages 2 to 3.5 and Dingos for ages 3.5 to 5, which means the activities are tailored to the kids at each stage. No previous rugby experience is needed, and the focus is very much on learning through play.
