Taking my four year old on the Mooloolaba Ferry turned into one of those unexpectedly easy Sunshine Coast adventures. We could hop on, enjoy the ride, jump off for a little explore and make a whole outing of it without having to worry about finding a park in Mooloolaba.

We started at Kawana Waters Hotel and slowly cruised our way through to Mooloolah River Fisheries. We hopped off for a little wander, grabbed an ice cream and had a play before making our way back again.
There are five stops along the route, including Kawana Waters Hotel, La Balsa Park, Mooloolah River Fisheries, Mooloolaba Marina and The Wharf Mooloolaba, so you can choose where you hop on and off and make the outing as big or little as you like.
What I loved most was how easy the whole experience felt. We didnβt have to deal with the usual Mooloolaba parking stress or rush anywhere, and could just sit back with our four year old and enjoy being out on the water.
My daughter also got to ring the bell and have a turn βdrivingβ the ferry, which was such a highlight for her.
Prams are welcome onboard, although accessibility to the floating docks and gangways can change with the tide, so assistance may sometimes be needed. Bikes, surfboards and beach gear can also come onboard, which opens up plenty of options for making a bigger day of it.
You donβt need to book ahead because tickets can be purchased onboard, although online tickets are also available.
We visited February 2026. While we do our best to keep our listings up to date, information can change. We recommend checking Mooloolaba Ferryβs website or social media for current timetables, fares and service updates before visiting.
