We started our visit at the Environmental Visitor Centre and we’re so glad we did. It’s filled with interactive displays showing some of the things you might discover throughout the wetlands, which got our little one excited about what we were about to find. When we visited, they even had free mosquito repellent available.

From there, the elevated boardwalk winds for around 900m through the wetlands before reaching the Maroochy River. We spotted crabs, interesting seed pods and heard so many different birds along the way, and our little one was fascinated by all the new things he was discovering.

We walked the whole way to the river and back, and I’ll admit I hadn’t checked the map beforehand and thought it was a loop! It’s an out and back walk, so keep in mind you’ll be covering around 1.8km if you go all the way to the end. There are seats and viewing areas along the boardwalk, plus a picnic spot once you reach the river.

One of my favourite things about this walk was simply how peaceful it was. At one point our little one kept asking, “What’s that sound?” and it was literally just the wind moving through the trees. It was such a beautiful moment to stop and experience with the kids.

The boardwalk is wide, flat and suitable for prams, although when we visited I walked with our oldest and had our youngest in the carrier. There is also an interactive audio trail along the boardwalk now, with stories and nature sounds you can stop and listen to as you explore.

It’s a decent walk for little legs, so we’d avoid the hottest part of the day and definitely pack insect repellent. Being a wetland, the mosquitoes can be around, particularly during warmer weather.

We visited October 2024. While we do our best to keep our listings up to date, information can change. We recommend checking the business’s website or social media before visiting.
