LifeFlight Visitor Experience and Education Centre

As a mum with a child obsessed with emergency vehicles, this was so much fun that we were already talking about coming back before we left.

We arrived not really knowing what to expect and were so impressed with what was there. The Visitor Experience is self guided, with interactive sea, road and bush rescue missions that are such a fun way for kids to learn about the incredible work LifeFlight does.

The highlight for us was seeing the rescue helicopters in the hangar. We were lucky enough to watch the blue helicopter land and the crew bring it inside, which made the visit even more special. My kids also loved colouring their own rescue helicopter and seeing it appear on the big screen.

The volunteers were so welcoming and happy to answer questions if we needed them, which really added to the experience. There’s also a lovely grassed area outside if you want to bring a picnic rug and enjoy a morning or afternoon tea. Just keep in mind that food and drinks aren’t permitted inside the Visitor Experience. If you’re lucky, you might even get to see a helicopter take off or land during your visit.

My daughter, who’s two and a half, enjoyed exploring and colouring, but I’d say the interactive missions are best suited to slightly older children. My son, who is almost five, absolutely loved every minute.

LifeFlight recommends allowing up to an hour for your visit, and because this is a working emergency rescue service, there may be times when the helicopters are out on a mission and aren’t visible from the viewing window.

It only opened in July and we’ve already been twice. It was just as much fun for me as it was for the kids!
