We came across this spot while looking for something to do together on an overcast day and ended up exploring three different areas, with beautiful views, plenty of space for a picnic and a pretty impressive pontoon to finish.

We started by driving up to the rock to check out the views, then hopped back in the car and made our way down to the recreation area before finishing at the lake and pontoon.
You can also turn it into more of a walk by parking near the scout grounds and exploring on foot. The walk up to Dunethin Rock is short, with beautiful views across the Maroochy River, cane fields and surrounding landscape waiting at the top.
The recreation area is a lovely spot to slow down afterwards, with natural shade, picnic tables and seating scattered throughout. There are also toilets here, which is handy to know when you’re visiting with little ones.
There can be midges around the lake and mangroves, so we’d definitely throw some insect repellent in the bag before heading out.
We visited January 2025. While we do our best to keep our listings up to date, information can change. We recommend checking the business’s website or social media before visiting.
